Kofi Adams Backs Black Stars to Win World Cup After Reaching Last 32
Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has declared that Ghana’s ambition at the 2026 FIFA World Cup extends far beyond merely reaching the knockout stages, insisting the Black Stars remain firmly focused on lifting the trophy.
The Black Stars have progressed to the Round of 32 after an impressive group-stage campaign and will now face Colombia in the knockout phase as they continue their quest for a historic World Cup triumph.
Speaking on Sporty Breakfast, Adams expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete with the world’s best, saying qualification for the last 32 is only another step towards achieving their ultimate objective.
“48 teams started the World Cup. Now it’s down to 32. We still think that we’re heading towards clinching the World Cup trophy,” he said.
The Sports Minister stressed that winning the tournament remains the long-term vision shared by everyone involved with the national team.
“That is our project.”
Adams’ comments reflect the growing optimism surrounding the Black Stars following a disciplined and resilient group-stage performance under head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Ghana secured their place in the knockout rounds after collecting four points from their opening two matches before concluding the group stage with a narrow defeat to Croatia, a result that did not prevent their progression.
The Black Stars are now preparing for a challenging Round of 32 encounter against Colombia at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, with a place in the last 16 at stake.
