Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has assured the Black Stars that the government is working on a qualification bonus for the team, stressing that financial matters will not be allowed to distract the squad as Ghana prepares for the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars secured their place in the Round of 32 after an impressive group-stage campaign and are now set to face Colombia in Kansas City for a place in the last 16.

Speaking on Sporty Breakfast, Adams praised the players’ commitment and revealed that discussions are underway regarding the financial package that will reward the team for reaching the knockout phase.

“The Black Stars are very highly motivated. Government has done its bit. We have qualification bonus to the next stage to give them,” he said.

Although the bonus has not yet been officially announced, the minister assured Ghanaians that the process is being finalised.

“We’ve not offered that yet but it’s being worked on.”

Adams emphasised that his priority is ensuring the players remain fully focused on football rather than financial issues as they chase further success at the tournament.

“I don’t want anything financial to derail them.”

The government’s assurance comes as excitement continues to build around Ghana’s World Cup campaign. Under head coach Carlos Queiroz, the Black Stars have exceeded expectations by progressing to the knockout rounds after collecting four points during the group stage.

With preparations now shifting towards the Round of 32 encounter against Colombia, the Sports Minister expressed confidence that the players remain motivated to continue making the nation proud on football’s biggest stage.
