Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has called on Ghanaians to continue supporting the national team as they chase a historic run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The veteran forward, who is preparing for his third appearance on football’s biggest stage, says the current squad is fully focused on delivering performances that will make the nation proud when the tournament begins in North America.

Ayew made the remarks during a send-off event for the Black Stars in Alexandria, Virginia, where players and officials interacted with members of the Ghanaian community ahead of the competition.

The 34-year-old acknowledged the magnitude of the challenge awaiting Ghana in Group L but insisted the players are embracing the opportunity with confidence and determination.

“We have three massive games for us, and we want to make you guys proud, we want to make Ghana proud,” Ayew said.

Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in a challenging group that many observers consider one of the most competitive at the tournament.

Despite the difficult task ahead, the Black Stars captain believes the team possesses the hunger and ambition required to achieve something memorable.

“We want to thank everyone for your support and keep on praying for us because we’re here to make history.”

As one of the most experienced members of the squad, Ayew is expected to play a pivotal role both on the field and in the dressing room as Ghana seeks to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since its memorable quarter-final run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Having represented the Black Stars at the 2014 and 2022 editions, Ayew brings invaluable tournament experience to a squad that blends established internationals with emerging talents.

The four-time African champions will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 before taking on England and Croatia in their remaining group fixtures.

With optimism growing within the camp and support building among Ghanaians at home and abroad, Ayew’s message reflected a squad united by a common objective — creating a World Cup story that will be remembered for years to come.
