No Team Ghana Athlete Is Missing, Says National Paralympic Committee
The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana has firmly rejected reports suggesting that some members of Team Ghana are missing or unaccounted for following the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, describing the claims as inaccurate and unsupported by verified information.
In a statement released on Monday, August 3, the committee said it had become aware of media reports and public speculation regarding the whereabouts of some athletes after the conclusion of the Games.
The NPC pointed to an earlier clarification issued by Ghana Olympic Committee Communications Director Charles Osei Asibey, who explained that members of Team Ghana were scheduled to return to the country in different batches rather than on a single flight.
“In view of this official clarification, NPC Ghana wishes to state that it is inaccurate to characterise athletes as ‘missing’ or ‘unaccounted for’ without verified facts from the appropriate authorities,” the statement read.
The committee emphasised that the responsibility for coordinating Team Ghana’s accommodation, logistics, travel and overall management throughout the Games rested with the Ghana Olympic Committee’s designated Games management team.
NPC Ghana also cautioned against assumptions that athletes who remain in the United Kingdom have disappeared or engaged in any misconduct.
According to the committee, several competitors from Commonwealth nations are still in the UK under valid immigration permissions, which remain in effect until August 16, 2026, while others are returning home according to previously arranged travel schedules.
The committee urged the media and the public to verify information through the appropriate authorities before publishing or sharing reports.
It warned that unverified speculation has the potential to damage the reputations of Ghanaian athletes and undermine the country’s image on the international stage.
NPC Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare and integrity of its athletes while encouraging responsible reporting as Team Ghana concludes its Commonwealth Games participation.
