Ibrahim Tanko has attributed Medeama SC’s defeat to Dreams FC to a lack of urgency in the early stages, admitting his side paid the price for a sluggish opening in their Ghana Premier League clash.

The Mauve and Yellow suffered a 2-1 setback on matchday 26, a result that has seen them relinquish top spot in the standings at a critical point in the season. Once comfortably ahead, Medeama now sit second on 46 points, trailing Bibiani Gold Stars, who capitalised with a victory over Vision FC.

Reflecting on the performance, Tanko acknowledged that his team struggled to cope with the intensity of their opponents early in the game.

“We started very slowly, and Dreams FC were the better side in the opening 20 minutes. However, we gradually found our rhythm and grew into the game. In the second half, we dominated play and scored a beautiful goal, but unfortunately time was not on our side, and we ended up losing.”

Despite the defeat, the former Black Stars assistant coach remains focused on the task ahead, urging his players to respond positively in the remaining fixtures.

“Now our focus shifts to the next game. We must keep working hard and ensure we secure maximum points. With eight matches remaining, we will prepare thoroughly and approach each one with determination,” he added.

The loss represents a turning point in Medeama’s campaign, with their earlier dominance now under threat as rivals gain momentum in the title race.

With eight games left, the pressure is mounting on Tanko’s side to rediscover consistency and resilience if they are to reclaim top spot and keep their championship ambitions alive.
