Asante Kotoko has reached out to their fiercest rivals, Hearts of Oak, urging them to join the fight against hooliganism in Ghanaian football following the tragic events at Nsoatre last Sunday.

The matchday 19 clash between Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC took a violent turn seven minutes into the second half, when a heated exchange between players escalated into a full-blown brawl. The altercation spilled into the stands and beyond the stadium, leading to a brutal confrontation between supporters.

In the aftermath, Francis Yaw Frimpong, a devoted Kotoko fan known as Nana Pooley, was fatally stabbed, sparking nationwide condemnation and renewed calls for stricter security measures at league venues.

Kotoko, in an official statement, emphasized that ending football violence requires collaborative efforts from all clubs, particularly their historic rivals Hearts of Oak.

“It is time to end the cycle of violence, hooliganism, and lawlessness that threatens the integrity of our game. We call on all clubs to support this cause, especially our greatest rivals on the pitch, Hearts of Oak, because this is bigger than competition,” the statement read.

With matchday 20 fixtures currently on hold, Kotoko has also suspended all football-related activities indefinitely until necessary actions are taken to curb hooliganism in Ghanaian football
