Hearts of Oak Dismiss Crisis Reports, Describe Kpobiman Meeting as ‘Routine Engagement’
Accra Hearts of Oak S.C. have firmly rejected widespread media claims suggesting the club is facing internal turmoil and financial difficulties, describing the reports as exaggerated and misleading.
In an official statement released on March 11, 2026, the Ghanaian giants moved quickly to counter reports alleging that the club had convened an emergency meeting following unrest within the playing body.
According to the Phobians, the gathering held at their training base in Kpobiman Training Complex was not crisis-driven but rather a scheduled interaction intended to strengthen unity within the team and offer additional support to the technical staff.
The response follows reports circulating in sections of the media claiming that players were dealing with “psychological instability” due to outstanding salary arrears and unpaid bonuses. Some of the stories further alleged that the situation had deteriorated to the point where certain members of the squad were struggling to settle basic utility bills at the club’s residence.
Other claims suggested that players had voiced concerns about the playing surface at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, popularly known as Legon Stadium, and were frustrated by what was described as “incessant insults” from supporters amid a series of disappointing results. The criticism reportedly intensified after the club’s recent 0–0 stalemate with Basake Holy Stars F.C..
However, Hearts of Oak management has strongly disputed the narratives, insisting the accounts do not accurately reflect what transpired during the meeting with the players.
Club officials described the circulating reports as “inaccurate, misleading, and unsubstantiated,” emphasizing that the discussions with the squad were constructive and focused on improving team cohesion rather than addressing any crisis.
The club also cautioned media organizations to verify information before publication, warning that it reserves the right to pursue legal action against outlets responsible for spreading defamatory claims that could tarnish the club’s image.
On the pitch, Hearts of Oak currently sit fourth in the Ghana Premier League standings after 25 matches, a campaign marked by defensive solidity but attacking struggles. The team has yet to score in four consecutive home games in 2026, with the most recent being the goalless draw against Basake Holy Stars, a match in which the Phobians finished with ten men.
