Head coach of Heart of Lions, Bashir Hayford, is expecting a highly competitive fixture when his team locks horns with Young Apostles on Sunday, May 25, in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 32 clash.

With just three matches remaining in the 2024/25 campaign, Heart of Lions are firmly in the title race and will need a strong finish to stake their claim for the championship. They currently sit among the top contenders, just a few points shy of league leaders.

Speaking during his pre-match interview, Coach Hayford underscored the importance of the weekend encounter, acknowledging the dual challenges his side faces — maintaining their title ambitions while dealing with a Young Apostles team desperate to avoid relegation.

“These last three matches, we need some points to still be in contention for the league,” Hayford said. “So the expectation is that we will try and get a win there, and then we see the last two matches if we will be in contention for the league.”

He continued, “So it’s going to be a tough match. They are also planning relegation, so it’s going to be very difficult. But like I said, we will try to get the win there to stay in contention. That will motivate the boys to play the last two matches.”

Heart of Lions’ title hopes hinge heavily on their ability to collect all three points against a Young Apostles side fighting for survival. A win on Sunday would not only keep them in close proximity to the league summit but also boost morale ahead of their final fixtures — a home tie against Bechem United and a potential decider away at Nations FC.

With Coach Hayford’s leadership and the team’s momentum, Heart of Lions remain determined to push their historic title bid to the final day.
