Mohammed Sahnoon, President of the Ghana Cycling Federation and current Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Games Association (CGA), has officially endorsed Richard Akpokavie for the GOC presidency ahead of the upcoming elections.

Sahnoon, who is also seeking re-election as Secretary General, expressed strong confidence in Akpokavie’s ability to lead the GOC into a new era of progress and integrity.

In his statement, Sahnoon highlighted Akpokavie’s eight-year tenure as GOC Secretary General (up to 2021) as proof of his deep understanding of administration, governance, and accountability.

“Progress in sports cannot thrive without robust governance. Richard Akpokavie recognizes that sustainable growth requires empowering institutions, capacity building, ensuring ethical practices, and prioritizing long-term strategies,” Sahnoon emphasized.

Sahnoon also reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with Akpokavie if both are elected, emphasizing the need for a cohesive leadership team.

“Our aligned priorities—such as involving the Executive Committee in decision-making, enhancing capacity building through Olympic Solidarity programs, promoting gender equity in sports, and modernizing sports infrastructure—demand a leadership rooted in mutual respect and complementary expertise,” he stated.

“Let us unite behind a vision that places integrity and progress at the heart of sports development,” he concluded.

With the GOC elections on the horizon, Sahnoon’s endorsement adds momentum to Akpokavie’s bid to lead the committee into a new chapter of transformation for Ghanaian sports.
