Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has alleged that England star Jude Bellingham directed offensive remarks towards him during a tense exchange in Tuesday’s FIFA World Cup Group L clash between the Black Stars and the Three Lions.

The incident unfolded shortly before halftime in the goalless encounter after Bellingham’s robust challenge on Ghana defender Jerome Opoku sparked angry reactions from the Black Stars bench.

As tensions rose near the touchline, television cameras captured Bellingham exchanging words with members of Ghana’s technical team before England forward Morgan Rogers intervened and escorted his teammate away as the players made their way to the dressing rooms.

Speaking after the match, Queiroz explained that he initially approached the situation out of concern for Opoku, who remained on the ground following the tackle.

“My intention was to tell him to cool down with that tackle that he did,” Queiroz said.

“I was worried because our player was still down and I wanted to make sure everything was okay.”

According to the Portuguese coach, the discussion quickly escalated when Bellingham reacted angrily.

“He had a bad reaction with some bad names and that’s why the story started,” Queiroz claimed.

The former Real Madrid, Portugal and Iran manager also suggested the England midfielder was fortunate to avoid harsher punishment for the challenge itself.

“It could be a second yellow card or even a red card. It was clear because he went with his foot against our player.”

The incident added another layer of drama to a fiercely contested match that saw Ghana frustrate England in a disciplined defensive display to earn a valuable point and secure qualification to the knockout stage.

Despite his criticism of Bellingham’s actions, Queiroz was keen to put the matter into perspective, acknowledging that emotions often run high in matches of such importance.

“In the emotional moment these things are normal,” he said.

The draw left both Ghana and England on four points at the top of Group L, with the Black Stars booking their place in the next round and England remaining well-positioned to advance ahead of their final group fixture against Panama.

While the match itself ended without goals, the halftime confrontation is likely to remain one of the talking points from an intense World Cup battle between two sides chasing qualification.
