Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has shed light on the decision to draft Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer into the Black Stars squad following late injury withdrawals.

The inclusion of the Hamburger SV forward came after Iñaki Williams and Brandon Thomas-Asante were ruled out due to knocks sustained during recent club assignments, forcing the technical team to make a swift replacement ahead of the international friendlies in Europe.

Explaining the rationale behind the move, Asante Twum emphasized the importance of maintaining balance within the squad while also navigating logistical challenges.

“You have to try as much as possible not to break the spine of the team. Yes, we had two players pulling out, but transport arrangements are very crucial,” he said.

He further revealed that proximity and ease of travel played a major role in the final decision, given the team’s base in Europe.

“With the team already in Europe, we looked at the possibility of bringing in players who do not require visas. Luckily, Ransford did not need a visa to travel to Austria. He was already on standby, so it was easier to assess his skillset and make the decision.”

Königsdörffer has since joined his teammates in camp and is expected to take part in training sessions as preparations intensify.

The Black Stars are gearing up for key friendly matches, with the technical team keen on preserving squad cohesion while testing new options ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
