Otto Addo has welcomed Derrick Kohn’s commitment to the Black Stars, describing the defender as a valuable addition ahead of upcoming international assignments.

Born in Germany, Kohn made the switch in allegiance in late 2025 and has since begun his journey with Ghana, earning his debut during the Kirin Cup. His inclusion in the squad for friendlies against Austria and Germany highlights his growing importance within the team.

Addo expressed satisfaction with the player’s decision and early contributions in national colours.

“We are happy that he has chosen Ghana,” he said. “He participated in the two test matches in November and made a good impression. He has a very good chance of being at the World Cup.”

The Ghana coach believes Kohn’s adaptability on the left flank offers tactical flexibility, allowing the team to adjust based on opponents and match situations.

“We have many good wingers. But I never rule anything out. It depends on the opponent and the situation; we are flexible. You can also play with a left winger who is more defensively oriented,” he added.

Kohn’s steady performances at Union Berlin have further strengthened his case, with the 27-year-old playing a consistent role in the Bundesliga this season.

Addo acknowledged the defender’s club form as a key factor behind his growing influence.

“His development at Union Berlin is very good. Union has been relatively stable this season. I don’t think they’ll be involved in the relegation battle. That’s also thanks to Derrick. Overall, it’s been a good season and things are moving in the right direction.”

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Kohn is emerging as a strong contender for a place in Ghana’s squad, offering both defensive solidity and attacking support from the flanks.
