Black Queens’ Friendly Against Nigeria Cancelled Ahead of WAFCON 2026
Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have suffered a slight change after the Black Queens’ scheduled friendly against Nigeria’s Super Falcons was officially cancelled.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced the development on Friday night, confirming that the much-anticipated West African showdown would no longer take place.
“The friendly match between Black Queens and Super Falcons has been called off. We continue to prep for WAFCON,” the GFA said in a statement.
The cancellation means head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren will have to complete his team’s final preparations without facing one of Africa’s strongest women’s national teams.
The Black Queens are currently camping in Morocco as they gear up for the continental showpiece, which is set to run from July 25 to August 16.
Ghana have been placed in Group D, where they will take on Cape Verde, Cameroon and Mali in the opening phase of the competition.
Their campaign begins on July 29 against Cape Verde at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.
