Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Justice Blay has publicly apologised following widespread backlash over controversial comments he made during a live interview on Pure FM Sports, in which he levelled serious accusations against former teammates and disclosed intimate personal details.

During the interview, which quickly went viral, Blay alleged that Guinean teammate Camara Mohammed “snatched” his girlfriend—an incident he claimed escalated to a police case after a confrontation. He also accused striker Kwame Opoku of taking over another romantic partner he had introduced to him. Further, Blay named Joseph Ablor and Camara Mohammed again, this time accusing them of smoking shisha, as he sought to counter public narratives suggesting he was the only player at the club with disciplinary issues.

In response to the storm of criticism that followed the interview, Blay issued a formal apology on Friday, July 11, 2025, through the JBlay Foundation. In the statement, he admitted that his comments were influenced by emotional distress following his exit from the club.

“Upon reflection, I recognise that my words may have caused disappointment or offense to the club, my former teammates, the passionate supporters, and specific individuals whose names were mentioned,” the statement read.

Blay expressed his “sincerest and unreserved apology” to Asante Kotoko SC, its management, technical team, players, and fanbase, noting that he had no intention of tarnishing the club’s reputation or undermining the contributions of his former colleagues.

He accepted full responsibility for his comments and acknowledged that emotions got the better of him during the interview. “This experience has served as a powerful reminder of the values of emotional discipline, humility, and maturity—on and off the pitch,” he added.

Blay’s apology appears aimed at mending fences with the club and its supporters after a turbulent exit from the Porcupine Warriors, following the mutual termination of his contract at the end of the 2024/25 season.
