Ghana defender Alexander Djiku says he is excited about the prospect of completing the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in front of home supporters at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars will wrap up their qualification campaign on Sunday, October 12 at 19:00 GMT, when they host Comoros in what promises to be a celebratory night for Ghanaian football fans.

Currently, Ghana sits at the top of Group I with 22 points, boasting an eight-goal advantage over their closest rivals, Madagascar, who are on 19 points. This means that even a draw will be enough to confirm the Black Stars’ ticket to the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico next year.

Despite the favourable position, Djiku insists the team’s focus remains on securing a decisive result to officially confirm Ghana’s qualification.

The dependable centre-back was among the scorers in Ghana’s 5-0 victory over Central African Republic (C.A.R.) in Meknes, Morocco, a result that put the Black Stars within touching distance of qualification. He had also netted the winner in Ghana’s 1-0 triumph over Mali in the previous round of qualifiers.

Reflecting on the team’s recent success, Djiku took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to share his thoughts, writing:

“Solid performance today. Not done yet! We finish at home Sunday.”

Djiku, who featured for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is poised to make his second consecutive appearance on football’s biggest stage — an achievement he says would be even more special if sealed before the home crowd in Accra.

The Black Stars are expected to have strong local support as they aim to close their World Cup qualifying campaign in style and officially book their place among Africa’s representatives for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
