Hearts of Oak’s Ghana Premier League title aspirations suffered a setback on Sunday as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Basake Holy Stars at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park.

The game started with Hearts of Oak showing intent, looking to recover from recent setbacks. Hamza Issah was caught offside early after a clever pass from Ramzy Yussif, setting the tone for a day of missed opportunities.

Hearts’ best chance of the first half came when Ampadu sent a pass to Issah, but the forward failed to capitalize.

Just before halftime, Hearts made an early substitution, bringing on Mawuli Wayo for Martin Karikari. Wayo, however, missed a golden opportunity on the stroke of halftime, summing up the Phobians’ frustrations.

Despite their dominance in possession and several attempts to find a breakthrough, the Phobians lacked the clinical edge in front of goal.

Late in the game, Holy Stars almost stole the win when Prince Opoku’s curling free-kick forced an outstanding save from Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.

The draw leaves Hearts of Oak in fifth place, four points behind the league leaders. Basake Holy Stars remain winless in 2024 but maintain a six-point cushion above the relegation zone.
