The stage is set for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco as the official draw took place in Rabat this evening, unveiling a series of tantalizing group-stage encounters.

Morocco, hosting the tournament for the first time since 1988, finds itself in Group A alongside Mali, Zambia, and Comoros. As one of the favorites, the Atlas Lions will seek to capitalize on their home advantage and build on their remarkable 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinal run.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, aiming to clinch their fourth AFCON title, will headline Group C, where they face Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Reigning champions Côte d’Ivoire are drawn in a thrilling Group F with Cameroon, Gabon, and Mozambique. Côte d’Ivoire, fresh from their 2023 triumph, will face stiff competition from Cameroon, while Gabon and Mozambique will be eager to cause upsets.

Record champions, Egypt are the standout team in Group B, where they face South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe. With a rich history in the tournament, the Pharaohs are favorites to progress but will need to guard against surprises.

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah, now leading Sudan, has been drawn into Group E. There, they will contend with Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea. Appiah will aim to inspire Sudan to rekindle their glory days as they face a tough group.

Group D features Senegal, alongside DR Congo, Benin, and Botswana. For Botswana, making just their second AFCON appearance after debuting in 2012, this will be a test of resilience and ambition.

This year’s AFCON, featuring 24 teams, will kick off on December 21, 2025, and conclude on January 18, 2026. Matches will take place across nine state-of-the-art stadiums in Morocco, with each team housed in individual base camps.
