Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Gladson Awako has opened up about his time at the club, sharing insights on the challenges he faced and what led to his departure.

Gladson Awako joined Hearts of Oak in 2021 and left the club in September 2023 winning the league title and two FA Cup trophies.

The 33-year-old has revealed that his influence at the club contributed to his departure from the club.

In an interview with Asempa FM,  Awako explained that internal dynamics at the club, including his growing influence, contributed to his exit; stating that Hearts of Oak is a political club.

“Hearts of Oak and Olympics are two different clubs. One of the club is political and the other is not. It got to a time they thought I was becoming too powerful so they had to get rid of me but there was no problem with me.” He said.

He admitted he became powerful at the club due to the leadership role granted him by former coach Matic.

“The leadership roles I got from the coach gave me power and they felt if they should allow me, it wont help most of them so they got rid of me.” He added.

The midfielder now plies his trade for Great Olympics in the Division One League
