Former Great Olympics Coach Annor Walker Passes Away
Ghanaian football has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran coach Annor Walker, who passed away at his residence in Accra on Tuesday, October 1, 2025, after a brief illness.
Walker, one of the country’s most respected tacticians, left an indelible mark on the local game through his decades of service across several clubs and national assignments.
The seasoned trainer is best remembered for his impressive spell with Accra Great Olympics, where he transformed the “Dade Boys” into one of the most competitive sides in the Ghana Premier League in recent years. His leadership not only restored belief within the club but also re-established their presence among Ghana’s elite teams.
Beyond Olympics, Walker built a diverse coaching portfolio. He worked with Nania FC, Hearts of Lions, Berekum Chelsea, and later took up technical leadership roles at Vision FC. A CAF License A holder, his breakthrough moment came with Nania FC between 2005 and 2011, first as assistant and later as head coach.
In 2011, he masterminded one of the greatest cup upsets in Ghanaian football history, guiding Nania to their maiden major trophy — the MTN FA Cup — after edging out giants Asante Kotoko 1–0 in the final at the Accra Sports Stadium.
His career also extended to the national stage, where he served as head coach of the Black Galaxies, Ghana’s home-based national team. Despite facing health challenges that occasionally interrupted his career, Walker consistently returned with resilience, determination, and tactical brilliance.
Tributes are already pouring in from the football fraternity, with many highlighting his dedication to nurturing talent and his ability to build strong, disciplined teams.
Coach Annor Walker’s influence on Ghanaian football stretched far beyond the touchline. His legacy will continue to live through the players he mentored, the teams he rebuilt, and the trophies he delivered.
