Ghana defender Daniel Amartey terminates contract with Turkish club Besiktas – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results
Black Stars defender Daniel Amartey has officially ended his time with Turkish club Besiktas after both parties agreed to mutually terminate his contract.
This move comes amidst recent controversy surrounding a potential transfer.
Amartey joined Besiktas in 2023 on a two-year deal. With one year remaining on his contract, the club reportedly attempted to sell him during the transfer window.
However, the situation turned contentious when Amartey allegedly refused to travel for a potential move.
Besiktas spokesperson Huseyin Yucel claimed Amartey only expressed interest in joining an English club despite the transfer window being closed.
Amartey strongly refuted these accusations, calling them “untrue.”
Given the impasse, both parties decided to terminate the contract, making Amartey a free agent.
The 29-year-old is now free to negotiate with any club of his choosing.
Amartey is a well-respected player in Ghana, having played a key role in Leicester City’s historic Premier League win during the 2015-16 season.
He also boasts 55 appearances for the Ghanaian national team.
With his experience and talent, Amartey is expected to attract interest from several clubs.
It remains to be seen where he will land next, but one thing is certain – he’ll be looking to make a fresh start after a tumultuous end to his time with Besiktas.
