Ghana’s Black Queens will no longer participate in the upcoming three-nation women’s tournament in Tanzania after withdrawing from the competition scheduled for the June FIFA international window.

The tournament, which was set to run from June 1 to June 9 in Dar es Salaam, was expected to bring together Ghana, Malawi and hosts Tanzania as part of their preparations for major international assignments.

The Black Queens had initially included the competition in their build-up plans for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), viewing the tournament as an opportunity to assess the squad and sharpen preparations ahead of the continental championship.

However, the Ghanaian side has now opted against travelling to Tanzania and will not be involved in the event.

The decision means the tournament will proceed without one of its originally confirmed participants, forcing organisers to adjust plans ahead of the opening matches.

Despite the withdrawal, preparations for WAFCON remain ongoing. The Black Queens are expected to stay in Accra during the FIFA window, where the technical team will continue its training programme.

The team is also expected to engage in friendly matches locally as part of efforts to maintain match fitness and evaluate players ahead of the continental tournament.

The change in schedule gives the coaching staff an opportunity to continue working with the squad on home soil while finalising plans for the next phase of preparations before the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
