Ghana’s Black Princesses have set their sights firmly on qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland after edging past South Africa in the previous round of the African qualifiers.

The young Ghanaian side advanced with a 3–2 aggregate victory, having battled to a 2–2 draw in the first leg in Accra before grinding out a crucial 1–0 win in the return fixture in Johannesburg. The result secured their place in the final qualifying round and kept their global ambitions alive.

Head coach Charles Sampson expressed delight with his team’s progress, describing South Africa as a stern test that required resilience and focus to overcome.

“Well, our goal is to go to the World Cup, and South Africa posed to be a challenge for us, so we are extremely happy we could surpass them,” Sampson said after the match.

With Uganda awaiting in the decisive final round, the coach believes the team will use the coming weeks to fine-tune preparations and study their next opponents.

“Now we will have time to prepare and look at which one is our next opponent,” he added.

The final qualifying phase will be played over two legs between May 1 and May 10, 2026, with a place at the global tournament in Poland up for grabs. The Black Princesses will be aiming to maintain their momentum and secure yet another appearance on the world stage.
