Berekum Chelsea spokesperson Isaac Obeng has acknowledged the daunting task that awaits his side on the opening weekend of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, as they prepare to face giants Asante Kotoko.

The much-anticipated Week 1 clash will be a major test for the Blues, who are hoping to begin the new campaign on a high note against one of the league’s most formidable opponents.

Speaking in an interview with Luv FM, Isaac Obeng admitted the difficulty of the fixture but expressed optimism that Chelsea can secure a win with the right level of preparation.

“After I saw it [the fixture against Kotoko], I called Coach Samuel Boadu to discuss it, and he feels the same thing as we’re all feeling that the game will be a very difficult game. We’re looking at the recruitment, Kumasi Asante and I can say Asante Kotoko is the best team so far in Ghana.”

He further revealed the team’s early preparations, stressing the importance of their pre-season camp in Kumasi and the tough run of fixtures to open the season.

“So, the team left Berekum yesterday to Kumasi, and when they were going, we told them that the preparation that we are going to do in Kumasi should be an intensive one, because our first three games is not an easy game.”

Despite the challenge, Berekum Chelsea remain confident in their ambitions to upset the Porcupine Warriors on home turf.

“So, we are hoping to beat Kumasi Asante, Kotoko, which we know is a very difficult game in Berekum,” Isaac Obeng added.

The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League officially kicks off on the weekend of September 12, 2025, and is expected to conclude on the weekend of May 23/24, 2026.
