Baah Agyemang Backs Addo Sacking, Urges GFA to Hire ‘World-Class’ Coach
Former National Sports Authority Board Chairman Kwadwo Baah Agyemang has thrown his support behind the decision to relieve Otto Addo of his duties as head coach of the Black Stars.
The Ghana Football Association’s move comes on the back of successive disappointing results, including a 2-1 defeat to Germany and a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria during the March international window.
Reacting to the development, Baah Agyemang described the decision as justified given the team’s recent performances.
“It is a good call,” he said in an interview on Asempa FM.
Despite endorsing the move, the former Asante Akyem North MP cautioned that the next step will be critical for Ghana’s ambitions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He emphasized the importance of securing a high-profile coach capable of delivering results on the global stage.
“My concern now is: who are we employing? Let’s go for a top-notch coach. Let’s dedicate good money to top-class coaches. Any coach available for 200,000 USD monthly who can deliver results, let’s go for it. There should be no nepotism in appointments. We should get a world-class coach,” he stated.
Addo’s departure follows a poor run in friendly matches, with the Black Stars losing all four games since booking their place at the World Cup.
Attention now shifts to the Ghana Football Association, which faces mounting pressure to appoint a suitable replacement quickly as preparations intensify. Upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Wales are expected to play a key role in shaping the team ahead of the tournament.
