Ghana defender Marvin Senaya has credited meticulous preparation and extensive video analysis for his impressive display against England’s attacking stars during the Black Stars’ goalless draw at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The AJ Auxerre full-back played a crucial role in Ghana’s disciplined defensive performance as Carlos Queiroz’s side frustrated the Three Lions in a fiercely contested Group L encounter on Tuesday night.

Tasked with containing England’s dynamic wide players, including Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon, Senaya rose to the challenge with a composed and energetic display that helped Ghana secure a valuable point.

Throughout the match, the defender remained alert to England’s attacking movements, limiting the influence of two players widely regarded among the most dangerous wingers in international football.

After the game, Senaya revealed that his performance was the result of careful preparation rather than chance.

“I watched a lot of their [Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka] videos, and I wanted to show something today,” he said.

The 24-year-old’s commitment to studying his opponents paid off as Ghana successfully neutralised much of England’s threat from the flanks.

His display formed part of a collective defensive effort that saw the Black Stars keep a second consecutive clean sheet at the tournament, following their opening 1-0 victory over Panama.

Senaya’s performance also highlighted the tactical discipline instilled by head coach Carlos Queiroz, whose game plan successfully frustrated England despite the Europeans enjoying the majority of possession.

The result strengthened Ghana’s position in Group L and moved the Black Stars a step closer to the knockout stages.

For Senaya, the draw against one of the tournament favourites represented another important step in his international career and an opportunity to demonstrate his quality on football’s biggest stage.

With a decisive clash against Croatia still to come, Ghana will be hoping the defender can produce another standout performance as they continue their push for a place in the World Cup knockout rounds.
