Asante Kotoko Bolster Defense with Signing of Right-Back Shayibu Abubakari
Asante Kotoko have officially announced the signing of right-back Shayibu Abubakari on a three-year contract ahead of the 2025/26 football season.
The 21-year-old defender joins the Porcupine Warriors from fellow Ghana Premier League side Karela United after successfully completing his medical.
Abubakari brings with him both local and international experience, having previously featured for Real Tamale United and enjoyed a brief stint in the Czech Republic with FK Mladá Boleslav.
Known for his athleticism and attacking instincts, the versatile full-back is also capable of playing further forward as a winger. His arrival is expected to provide increased depth and competition on the right side of Kotoko’s defense.
Abubakari will challenge Lord Amoah for the starting spot while offering valuable cover during Emmanuel Kotei’s continued recovery from an ACL injury.
With this addition, Kotoko continue to reshape their squad ahead of a busy campaign that includes domestic competition and their return to continental football.
