Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow have announced the acquisition of Ghana international Alexander Djiku, ending his two-year stay at Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

The experienced centre-back has signed a two-year contract with the Moscow-based club and is expected to bring leadership and stability to their defensive setup. At 31, Djiku’s wealth of experience across Europe positions him as a crucial addition for Spartak’s domestic and continental ambitions.

Djiku moved to Fenerbahce in 2023 on a free transfer after running down his contract with French outfit Strasbourg. During his time in Turkey, he cemented his place in the heart of the defence, particularly under the guidance of renowned coach José Mourinho last season.

Although he featured regularly in the 2023/24 campaign, Djiku managed only one appearance in the current season before opting for a new challenge in Russia.

For the Black Stars, Djiku remains a dependable figure and his latest move is expected to keep him sharp as Ghana continues its preparations for major international assignments.
