Aduana CEO Calls for Stronger Security After Frimpong Tragedy
Chief Executive Officer of Aduana FC, Collins Atta Poku, has urged authorities to urgently improve security for clubs traveling to league matches following the tragic death of Dominic Frimpong.
Frimpong, who was on loan at Berekum Chelsea, lost his life after armed robbers attacked the team’s bus while they were returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex.
Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, Atta Poku expressed deep grief over the incident, describing it as a painful loss that could have been avoided with better safety measures.
“To know someone that closely, and work with someone closely like that, it is painful… it’s very painful,” he said.
He stressed the need for increased protection for teams, particularly through police escorts during travel, especially for night journeys which have become common due to logistical constraints.
“It’s necessary that we get police on our buses when we are going to these games. We know the numbers are a little stretched, but we have to do something about it at some point to make sure that we have enough security on the bus when we are travelling, especially at night,” he added.
Atta Poku also highlighted the financial and operational challenges clubs face, explaining that limited resources often make it difficult to arrange overnight stays, forcing teams to travel under risky conditions.
“A lot of planning goes into it; sometimes it’s difficult, and we don’t have the resources to sleep over in such situations,” he explained.
In the aftermath of the attack, the Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators as calls intensify across the football community for enhanced safety protocols to protect players and officials.
