Abdul Mumin Dreams of Creating Lasting World Cup Memories with Black Stars
Black Stars defender Abdul Mumin Suleman has expressed his desire to be part of a Ghana team that leaves a lasting legacy at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as preparations continue in the United States ahead of the global tournament.
The centre-back shared his thoughts during a team gathering held to celebrate his 28th birthday at Ghana’s training base, where the squad is putting the finishing touches to its preparations for the competition in North America.
Mumin’s inclusion in Carlos Queiroz’s final 26-man squad marks a significant achievement after a challenging season at Spanish side Rayo Vallecano. The defender was limited to just three league appearances during the 2025/26 campaign as he battled back from a knee injury.
Despite the setback, he worked his way back to fitness and earned a place in Ghana’s World Cup squad, underlining the faith the coaching staff have in his abilities.
The defender was also involved in Ghana’s recent 1-1 draw against Wales, a match that provided valuable preparation ahead of the tournament.
Speaking to teammates and officials during the birthday celebration, Mumin reflected on the opportunity ahead of the Black Stars and expressed his hope that the squad can achieve something memorable on the world stage.
“It’s always an honour to be among you guys. We are here to prepare and perform and I hope that these coming weeks, we…create memories and stories that we will be proud of,” Mumin said.
His comments come at a time when Ghana is seeking to make amends for disappointing campaigns at its last two World Cup appearances, having failed to advance beyond the group stage in both 2014 and 2022.
The Black Stars will face a difficult challenge in Group L, where they are scheduled to take on Panama, England and Croatia in the opening phase of the tournament.
For Mumin and his teammates, the focus remains firmly on ensuring Ghana can compete strongly against some of the world’s best teams and give supporters reasons to celebrate.
As the countdown to the World Cup continues, the defender’s message reflects the growing determination within the squad to write a new chapter in Ghana’s football history and produce performances that will be remembered long after the tournament ends.
