Newly appointed Asante Kotoko interim head coach Abdul Karim Zito has revealed that he intends to adopt a fatherly and psychological approach to rejuvenate the team and restore confidence following recent poor performances.

Zito, a respected veteran in Ghanaian football, has stepped in to lead the Porcupine Warriors after the dismissal of Prosper Narteh Ogum due to a string of underwhelming results.

The club has seen a dip in form, with back-to-back defeats leaving them fourth on the Ghana Premier League table with 47 points.

Speaking to the media ahead of his first match in charge against Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, Zito emphasized the importance of reconnecting with the players on a personal level.

“The players don’t need a coach. They need me to be their father and friend,” Zito said.

“I have to come low to get what I want with the team. We are going to use knowledge and the psychological point of coaching to turn things around.”

The former Ghana U-20 coach noted that his first interaction with the players revealed a concerning lack of morale, which he believes must be addressed urgently.

“I have already met the players and wanted to know the problem. I was not satisfied with their movement after seeing them. The players walked as if they are going to a funeral. We have to let them know why they are playing for the club,” he added.

In addition to his interim coaching role, Zito will also serve as the technical director of the team, providing strategic oversight as the club searches for a permanent head coach.
