Ghana boss Chris Hughton has criticised his team’s defending for the goal conceded in the defeat to Comoros on Tuesday.

The Black Stars succumbed to a 1-0 defeat on matchday two of the 2026 World Cup African qualifiers in Moroni, failing to take advantage of Mali’s slip to go top of Group I.

Ghana’s defending in the 43rd minute was questioned after Myziane Maolida went on a solo after receiving the ball from the midfield before going on to score.

Speaking in his post-match, Hughton expressed his displeasure at the goal the team conceded.

“I thought Ghana we were the better team,” he said.

“We conceded what we regarded as a poor goal to concede and we were not able to capitalise on the chances that we had.”

The Black Stars stay on three points after two round of games played while Comoros go top of the Group with four points from two games.

The team will now turn its attention to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which is slated for January 2024 in Ivory Coast.
