Vice President Rallies Black Stars Ahead of Panama Clash

Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has delivered a strong message of encouragement to the Black Stars ahead of their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, assuring the players that the entire nation is firmly behind them.

The Vice President paid a visit to Ghana’s camp on Tuesday, June 16, leading a high-level government delegation ahead of the Black Stars’ Group L opener against Panama.

The visit formed part of efforts to inspire the team as they prepare to begin their World Cup journey and pursue a place in the knockout stage of the competition.

Speaking to the players, technical staff and officials, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang conveyed the support and goodwill of President John Dramani Mahama, the government and Ghanaians both at home and abroad.

She urged the players to approach the tournament with confidence, emphasizing her belief in the squad’s ability to represent the country with distinction on football’s biggest stage.

The Vice President noted that Ghanaians remain united behind the team and are hopeful the Black Stars can produce performances that will bring pride and joy to the nation throughout the competition.

She also extended her best wishes to the players, coaches and management team, expressing confidence that their hard work and commitment would be reflected in the tournament.

The delegation included Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie and other senior government officials, highlighting the importance attached to Ghana’s participation at the World Cup.

The visit comes as the Black Stars put the finishing touches to preparations for the crucial encounter against Panama, a fixture widely regarded as key to Ghana’s chances of advancing from a challenging group that also includes England and Croatia.

Members of the Black Stars camp welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude for the show of support, describing it as a significant boost ahead of the highly anticipated opener.

Ghana will face Panama on Wednesday in Toronto, with the Black Stars seeking a positive start to their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
