Tanko Shrugs Off Title Talk Ahead of Medeama’s Trip to Bibiani

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has brushed aside suggestions that his side’s upcoming clash with Bibiani GoldStars represents a defining moment in the Ghana Premier League title race, insisting his attention is firmly fixed on execution rather than calculations.

The Yellow and Mauves head to Dun’s Park occupying second place on the table, locked on points with leaders Asante Kotoko. GoldStars, meanwhile, sit fifth but remain firmly in contention, trailing the summit by just two points as the league’s top positions continue to tighten.

Despite the growing narrative around a potential title decider, Tanko believes such discussions are a distraction and has made it clear that his team’s approach will not be shaped by the standings of others.

“We have to think about our own game first. If we get a point or three there, we will definitely close the gap. We are not thinking about Kotoko, we are thinking about Bibiani GoldStars,” Tanko said in his pre-match interview.

The task facing Medeama is far from straightforward. GoldStars boast a perfect home record this season, having won all seven league matches at Dun’s Park, and they head into the encounter buoyed by a thrilling comeback victory over Dreams FC.

With momentum and league positions finely balanced, Tanko’s side will be aiming to stay focused on their performance as they seek a positive result in Bibiani, keeping their title ambitions alive without getting caught up in external pressure.
