Ruthless Black Maidens thrash Liberia to seize control of World Cup qualifier
Black Maidens delivered a powerful statement at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday after dismantling Liberia 6-0 in the first leg of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie.
The Ghanaian side dominated proceedings throughout the encounter, controlling possession, dictating the tempo and constantly troubling the Liberian defence with aggressive attacking play.
Although the Black Maidens created several early opportunities, the breakthrough finally arrived in the 31st minute when Daniella Abass found the back of the net to hand the hosts a deserved advantage before halftime.
Ghana returned from the break with even greater intensity and quickly widened the gap. Seidatu Wahab converted from the penalty spot before Linda Achiaa added a third goal as Liberia struggled to contain the home side’s movement and attacking combinations.
The pressure continued to mount as Jessica Appiah struck in the 60th minute to make it 4-0, effectively putting the contest beyond reach for the visitors.
Further goals from Priscilla Mensah and Mavis Yeboah completed an emphatic evening for the Black Maidens, who combined clinical finishing with a disciplined defensive display.
The commanding victory places Ghana in a strong position ahead of the return leg as the Black Maidens edge closer to another appearance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
