Prosper Narteh Ogum Urges Kotoko Players to Win Matches in Honor of Late Fan Nana Pooley
Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has called on his players to train harder and secure victories in memory of their late supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
The passionate Kotoko fan tragically lost his life after being stabbed during the club’s Week 19 Ghana Premier League fixture against Nsoatreman FC. His death has since sparked national outrage, with calls for improved security at football venues.
On Wednesday, February 19, Asante Kotoko returned to training for the first time since the incident. Before starting the session, Coach Ogum led his players in prayer for the departed supporter.
In an emotional address, Ogum emphasized the need for his team to channel their grief into motivation on the pitch.
“It’s unfortunate. Now we need to honor him, we need to dedicate whatever we do to honor him. I’m sure we are ready to honor him. It will be difficult to forget what happened. It will be difficult. But then the only way to honor him is to make sure we train well to win games to make his soul happy. Let’s all come together and make sure that we work very hard to get the results. That’s the most important thing,” he urged.
With the league currently suspended due to security concerns, Asante Kotoko will be looking to return stronger and motivated, using the memory of Nana Pooley as inspiration for the rest of the season.
