Ghana enjoyed a strong start in the men’s 100m event at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships after all three national representatives successfully advanced to the semi-final stage.

Competing during Tuesday evening’s opening session at the University of Ghana Stadium, Edwin Gadayi, Joseph Paul Amoah and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu each secured qualification after finishing second in their respective heats.

Gadayi was the first Ghanaian athlete to step onto the track and produced a solid run to claim second place behind Mathembe Tshuma of Zimbabwe.

Later in the competition, Amoah booked his semi-final berth in Heat 5 after crossing the line behind Emmanuel Eseme, who won the race.

Saminu completed Ghana’s impressive outing in Heat 7, where he also finished second, this time behind Chidera Ezeakor of Nigeria.

With all three athletes progressing, Ghana will now have strong representation in the semi-finals scheduled for later in the evening at 18:30 GMT as the sprinters battle for places in the final of the championship event.
