Otto Addo’s Contract Includes Clause for Termination Over AFCON Qualification Failure- George Afriyie
Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President, George Afriyie, has asserted that Black Stars coach Otto Addo’s three-year contract includes a clause for termination in the event of failure to qualify Ghana for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana were bottom of their AFCON qualification group with just three points after six games and failed to qualify for the AFCON in Morocco next year.
Speaking on the aftermath of Ghana’s failure to secure a spot at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, Afriyie questioned the GFA’s stance on not sacking Otto Addo despite the team’s poor performance in the qualifiers.
“Otto Addo was given a three-year contract. I heard he said he won’t resign, but it is funny,” Afriyie said. “I can speak on authority that one of the clauses to terminate Otto Addo’s contract is when he fails to qualify Ghana to the AFCON. The GFA can come out and deny if I’m telling lies.” He told Asempa FM.
The Black Stars’ qualification campaign ended in disappointment after a 1-1 draw against Angola, leaving fans and stakeholders disheartened.
