Otto Addo Laments Home Games Disappointment in Qualifiers
Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed his disappointment over Ghana’s inability to win at home during the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
The Black Stars are yet to win a game in the qualifiers; accumulating just three points in five games.
Speaking after a 1-1 draw with Angola in Luanda, Otto Addo emphasized the critical importance of securing victories in home matches during the qualification process.
“In general, we have to look at all the games we played, especially our home games,” Addo stated. “We lost to Angola, where we were better. In these tournaments, you have to win your home games; very, very important.”
Addo highlighted the challenges of recovering from missed opportunities in home fixtures, noting that winning away games is far more difficult due to the strength of host nations.
“And if you don’t win, it is always difficult to play away and try to win because every nation is strong at home,” he explained.
Ghana’s failure to secure maximum points in crucial home encounters played a significant role in their elimination from the AFCON qualifiers.
The team plays Niger on Monday at the Accra sports stadium.
