Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed his delight after ending his two-year goal drought for the Black Stars in their commanding 5-0 victory over Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Semenyo, who last scored for Ghana in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola, opened the scoring just two minutes into Friday’s match at the Accra Sports Stadium, setting the tone for a dominant display by Otto Addo’s side.

After the game, the AFC Bournemouth striker admitted he was determined to find the back of the net during this international break.

“I feel like every player has a period when they don’t score. Every game is an opportunity to try and get a goal; if I don’t, I focus on the next game,” Semenyo said.

“I felt like, during this international break, I needed to get a goal. I’m not going to say there is any pressure, but it was something I was looking forward to,” he added.

His early strike paved the way for a clinical performance from the Black Stars to secure Ghana’s place at the top of Group I with 12 points.

Ghana now shifts focus to their next challenge, a crucial encounter against Madagascar in Morocco on Monday, March 24, as they aim to solidify their position in the World Cup qualifiers.
