The newly elected leadership of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), led by President Richard Akpokavie, paid a special courtesy visit to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, at his residence in Fadama, Accra, on Friday.

The visit formed part of a series of goodwill engagements by the new GOC administration following their recent election. According to President Akpokavie, the purpose of the visit was to seek divine guidance and blessings as the new Board embarks on its four-year mandate to lead Ghana’s Olympic movement.

The Chief Imam warmly received the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the visit. He offered prayers for the President and each member of the new Board, invoking guidance, unity, and success in their tenure.

The delegation included 1st Vice President Mawuko Afadzinu, Secretary General Mohammed Kassim Muniru, Treasurer Evans Yeboah, and Board Members George Owusu Ansah, George Lamptey, George Tettey, Nathaniel Johnson, and Kamal Sulley.

Also accompanying the GOC leadership were Charles Osei Asibey, President of Africa and Ghana Armwrestling; Ms. Christie Ashley representing the Chess and Scrabble Federations; and Alhaji Shabaan Mohammed, Secretary General of the Ghana Cycling Federation.

The Ghana Olympic Committee, under its renewed leadership, is positioning itself to foster inclusivity, build strategic partnerships, and elevate Ghana’s representation and performance on the international sports stage.
