Head coach of Nations FC, Kasim Ocansey Mingle, has expressed his deep disappointment following his side’s dramatic collapse in the final stages of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, which ultimately cost them the title.

Nations FC finished the campaign with 60 points, securing third place on the league table. However, their title ambitions crumbled in the final two matches — first with a controversial walk-off during their penultimate fixture against Basake Holy Stars, and then a crushing home defeat to Heart of Lions on the last day.

The walk-off incident has since seen the club punished by the GFA Disciplinary Committee with a three-point deduction, which may officially drop them out of the top four, pending appeal outcomes.

Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Coach Mingle said he was understandably heartbroken by how events unfolded.

“I’m disappointed not winning the league. If you are leading the league and want to win and in last minute such a thing happens, you will definitely be disappointed,” he told reporters.

He further hinted that several off-field issues may have contributed to the collapse but chose not to elaborate.

“A lot of factors contributed towards this. As a technical man, I don’t like to be giving excuses but a lot of things happened which is not good for association football. It’s football, it has happened already but we are grateful to God. We break and prepare for next season,” he added.

Nations FC were on the cusp of winning their maiden top-flight title but fell short just when it mattered most. Meanwhile, Bibiani GoldStars took advantage of the slip-up, securing their first-ever Ghana Premier League title with a commanding 4-0 victory over Accra Lions on the final day.

Coach Mingle and his team will now look to regroup and aim for redemption in the 2025/26 season.
