“MTN FA Cup Cannot Be Put on Hold Until Nana Pooley’s Killer Is Found – Wilson Arthur”
Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Wilson Arthur, has defended the decision to proceed with the tournament despite ongoing investigations into the tragic murder of Kotoko fan Nana Pooley in Nsoatre.
During an interview on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite show with host Prof. E.K. Wallace on February 20, 2025, the host and the panelists expressed concerns that the competition should have been delayed out of respect for the unresolved case. However, Arthur insisted that postponing the FA Cup is unnecessary.
“If someone dines at a restaurant and something unfortunate happens, it doesn’t mean we should shut down all restaurants. Likewise, if a radio station catches fire, we don’t close all stations. The FA Cup must continue,” he asserted.
He reassured fans that security measures and other necessary precautions have been put in place to ensure a smooth and safe Competition.
“Football is entertainment, and this is a competitive event where we say ‘Obiaa Nnyɛ Obiaa.’ Player lineups will still be announced live on the field, and all essential safety protocols are in place,”
