Kwame Poku Injury Blow Hampers Kotoko Ahead of CAF Confederation Cup Clash
Asante Kotoko have been dealt a huge blow with confirmation that striker Kwame Poku will be sidelined for four to six weeks after suffering an ankle injury.
The forward was forced off just 20 minutes into Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League fixture against Berekum Chelsea, where Albert Amoah’s decisive goal ended the Porcupine Warriors’ 15-year winless run at the Golden City Park.
Subsequent medical assessments revealed that the former USM Algiers star sustained ankle damage, with recovery expected to keep him out until late October. This rules him out of several key fixtures both domestically and on the continental stage.
Among the games Poku will miss is Kotoko’s pivotal CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round encounter against Nigerian side Kwara United, scheduled for Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Poku’s absence is a major setback for head coach Karim Zito, who has leaned heavily on the striker’s experience and sharpness in attack. The Porcupine Warriors will now need to rely on other attacking options as they attempt to maintain momentum in the league and advance on the African stage.
