Konigsdorffer Seals Bundesliga Switch to Mainz After Hamburg Promotion Campaign
Ghana international Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer has completed a transfer to 1. FSV Mainz 05 ahead of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season, bringing an end to his stay with Hamburger SV.
The 24-year-old forward joins Mainz following an important campaign with Hamburg, where he played a significant role as the club secured Bundesliga survival after earning promotion.
Konigsdorffer featured in 33 league matches during the season and contributed five goals, continuing his steady rise in German football.
The Ghanaian attacker arrives in Mainz with considerable experience despite his age, having already amassed over 100 appearances across Germany’s top two divisions during spells with Hamburg and Dynamo Dresden.
Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert expressed confidence in the qualities the striker will add to the squad.
“Ransford Konigsdorffer is a fast and physical striker whose style of play will fit very well into our attack. He has been on the pitch in almost every competitive match in recent seasons and has developed into a regular Bundesliga player,” Bungert said.
He further highlighted the player’s long-term value to the club, pointing to both his age and room for further development as major factors behind the move.
Konigsdorffer also shared his excitement after finalising the transfer, revealing that conversations with the coaching staff and club hierarchy convinced him to take on the new challenge.
“I’m really looking forward to the new challenge here in Mainz. The coach and sporting directors clearly outlined their plans to me during our discussions, and that was very convincing,” he said.
The move offers the Ghana international an opportunity to further establish himself in the Bundesliga, with Mainz expected to rely on his pace, strength and versatility in attack during the upcoming campaign.
