Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan has taken on a new role in the country’s football setup after being officially introduced as ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and colts football.

The unveiling ceremony took place on Wednesday evening at the Pelican Hotel and attracted several prominent personalities from Ghana football, including officials of the Ghana Football Association and some of Gyan’s former teammates from the Black Stars.

The former captain, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest footballers, is expected to play an active role in supporting the growth of football at both national team and youth levels. His new position will involve engaging supporters, promoting the various national teams and helping strengthen enthusiasm ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Gyan will also participate in official football-related events on behalf of the GFA while contributing to initiatives aimed at developing colts football across the country.

The ceremony included an emotional moment when the former striker watched a documentary highlighting some of his memorable goals and performances for Ghana. Guests at the event applauded and celebrated the achievements of the ex-Sunderland AFC forward as clips from his international career were displayed.

Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals for the Black Stars and represented the country at three FIFA World Cups in 2006, 2010 and 2014. He also etched his name into Ghana football history by scoring the nation’s first-ever FIFA World Cup goal during the victory over the Czech Republic at the 2006 tournament in Germany.
