Kofi Adams Backs André Ayew for World Cup Spot With Black Stars
Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has thrown his support behind the possible inclusion of André Ayew in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking during an interview on Adom TV, the Sports Minister praised the experience and leadership qualities of the veteran forward, insisting age should not become a barrier if the technical team still considers him valuable to the squad.
“Dede Ayew is one of our great players. Older players than Dede have been at the World Cup. If the coach sees him fit and wants his experience he can be at the World Cup,” Adams stated.
The minister emphasized that his primary concern is the performance and results of the national team, regardless of which players are selected for the tournament.
“Me as a Minister, all I need is results,” he added.
Adams further highlighted Ayew’s influence within the team environment, describing the former captain as a player whose leadership extends beyond his performances on the pitch.
“Having Dede Ayew in the team is like having an additional player and coach on the pitch.”
Ayew remains one of Ghana’s most experienced footballers, having represented the Black Stars at multiple major international tournaments, including previous World Cups and Africa Cup of Nations competitions.
Discussions surrounding his potential inclusion in Ghana’s World Cup squad have intensified in recent months as the Black Stars continue preparations for the tournament in North America.
