Basake Holy Stars head coach Johnson Smith was left encouraged by his side’s performance after they battled Medeama SC to a 1-1 draw in Monday’s Ghana Premier League clash at the TnA Stadium.

Facing one of the title contenders away from home, Holy Stars delivered a disciplined display, frustrating the Yellow and Mauves for long spells and taking the lead through Moses Author. Victory slipped away late on when Kingsley Braye struck to earn Medeama a point, but Smith was quick to applaud his players’ commitment and organisation.

Reflecting on the contest after full-time, the Holy Stars coach revealed that his team executed the match plan exactly as intended.

“The game was not bad. This is how I told the boys to play, so what they did was very good,” Smith said.
“The boys are responding to the instruction. We have only five defenders, so whenever there is a problem, there is trouble.”

The result continues an impressive run for Basake Holy Stars under Smith’s guidance. Since taking charge, he has overseen five league matches, recording three wins and two draws, and remains unbeaten.

With performances steadily improving, Holy Stars appear to be growing in confidence, and Smith will be hoping his side can build on this momentum as the league campaign progresses.
