President  of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has committed to constructing six modern sports stadia across Ghana’s newly created regions, in a bold move to expand access to quality sporting infrastructure and promote talent development.

During his “Thank You Tour” in the Western North Region, Mahama announced that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation had already begun initial work on the designs and planning phases of the ambitious project.

“Under the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, modern sports stadia will be built in the six newly created regions, as well as in other regions that currently lack such infrastructure,” Mahama told residents and local chiefs during the engagement.

The project is part of a broader agenda to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of sports facilities across the country, particularly in areas that have been historically underserved. Mahama emphasized that the initiative would provide critical opportunities for youth development, serve as a platform for talent discovery, and stimulate community engagement.

The six regions—Western North, Oti, North East, Bono East, Savannah, and Ahafo—were created in 2019 to improve administrative governance and decentralize national development. Their inclusion increased the number of Ghana’s administrative regions from ten to sixteen.

Once completed, the proposed stadia are expected to become vital centers for both local sporting activities and national events, boosting local economies and enhancing Ghana’s overall sports landscape.
