Ivan Perišić Warns Croatia to Expect the Unexpected Against Ghana
Croatia winger Ivan Perišić has urged his teammates to be prepared for every scenario when they face Ghana in a decisive Group L clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, warning that the Black Stars remain a dangerous side despite already securing qualification for the knockout rounds.
The two nations meet in Philadelphia on Saturday with Croatia needing a positive result to keep their hopes of reaching the Round of 32 alive, while Ghana will be aiming to preserve their unbeaten record and strengthen their position at the top of the group.
Perišić acknowledged the quality of Carlos Queiroz’s side after studying Ghana’s performances against Panama and England, praising the Black Stars for their defensive organisation and tactical discipline.
“We watched their two matches as much as we could, and we have one more analysis. They are a good, compact team that played in a low block in these two matches.”
The experienced Croatian also believes Ghana’s qualification could lead to changes in their approach, making the contest even more unpredictable.
“They have qualified from the group, so they might change something. We must be ready for anything.”
Croatia recovered from their opening defeat to England by defeating Panama to revive their World Cup campaign, but Perišić admitted there is still room for improvement if his side is to overcome the Black Stars.
“We have to prepare and be much better than in the first two matches,” he said.
Ghana have impressed throughout the group stage, opening the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Panama before frustrating England in a goalless draw that confirmed their place in the knockout rounds.
Heading into the final round of Group L fixtures, England lead the standings on goal difference with four points, while Ghana are level on points in second. Croatia sit third with three points and know victory would significantly boost their chances of progressing, while Panama remain without a point.
With qualification already assured, the Black Stars will be looking to finish the group stage strongly, while Croatia face a must-win encounter in what promises to be one of the most compelling matches of the final group round.
