Inaki Williams Disappointed by Nico’s Absence Ahead of Arsenal Champions League Clash
Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams has revealed how he feels about his brother, Nico Williams not been available for the Champions League clash against Arsenal.
The 21-year-old winger suffered a groin injury while representing Spain against Turkey, limping off in the 43rd minute. Medical tests have since ruled him out for approximately three weeks, depriving Athletic of one of their brightest attacking outlets during a critical spell of fixtures.
For Inaki, who will lead the Basque side as captain against Arsenal, the setback resonates on both a personal and professional level.
“It’s a shame that he can’t be there tomorrow because we know how important he is to everyone. Nico is a very unbalanced player and creates chances out of nowhere. We miss him, but everyone here contributes, and those who play and come off the pitch can do well so it doesn’t show,” Williams told reporters.
Without Nico, Ernesto Valverde will have to reshuffle his attacking options as Athletic begin their Champions League journey against the English giants. The winger’s absence also rules him out of La Liga clashes against Alavés, Valencia, Girona, and Villarreal.
Optimism remains, however, that Nico could make his return in time for the high-profile European fixture against Borussia Dortmund.
Until then, Inaki and his teammates will be tasked with carrying the load, as the Lions look to make a strong impression on their first appearance in Europe’s elite competition since 2015.
